In 2024, Crochet With Kindness's founder, Hilary, picked up crocheting as a hobby after buying a beginner’s set and quickly fell in love with the creative freedom and expression it gave her. Soon enough, she started crocheting nearly every day, eager to learn new techniques and connect with others who shared the same passion as her.
However, learning the craft wasn’t easy. Yarn always had to be bought online, as there was no store nearby that gave her access to materials at a low price. Learning the craft required patience and guidance, which often took hours or days. That experience led to a realization: If creativity had such a positive impact on her life, how much more could it help other people who had no way of expressing themselves?
Driven by that question, Crochet with Kindness was created as a way to make creativity more accessible to the community. What began as a hobby evolved into a deeper sense of purpose: to reinvigorate the sense of imagination and dreams in people.
To help underserved communities gain access to creative tools, indulge in artistic hobbies, and overall, achieve a safe space for people to have creative expression is the mission that Crochet with Kindness abides by and wishes to apply to those who are struggling across the globe.
Through the universal medium of art, whether it be through words, drawings, paintings, or crafts, we believe art can form messages that can reach millions and also provide a symbol of inspiration for these communities to engage in creative hobbies that can serve as their relief from the struggles they face every day, and could eventually lead to a better livelihood for them as a whole.
