Within just a year since its founding, Crochet with Kindness has made 150 crocheted works and donated 255 books to communities in need.
In total, our initiative was able to donate 405 items, and we are just getting started!
Clarisse was a girl who loved to create, whether it be through drawing, painting, origami, and more! However, her favorite hobby was crocheting. She would crochet day and night, in any spare time she had, making plushies, purses, and keychains to give to her friends and family. Eventually, she had a whole room dedicated just for her creations, but she didn’t have anything to do with most of them, and her loved ones were saying that they already had enough presents.
Clarisse was devastated while sitting in her storeroom one night, until one of her creations fell off the shelf and rolled towards her. It was a pink ball of yarn that she made when she was bored, but then it stood up!
It had a tiny face and legs, along with a warm smile adoring it.
The pink ball of yarn introduced herself as Yarnia, a magical yarn plush that came to be because of Clarisse’s kind heart and desire to help others. Clarisse couldn’t believe her eyes at first–I mean, how could a ball of yarn just suddenly come to life?
But then she suddenly got a burst of inspiration. “What if I gave my creations to those who didn’t have the capacity to make art? What if I gave it to those who weren’t even given the chance to express themselves?”.
Yarnia responded to those questions with a resounding “YES! Let’s do it!”
From that day on, Clarisse and Yarnia set out on their mission to spread creativity and create a space where people could express and voice their feelings. Together, they donated crocheted works, books, handmade gifts, and more to people of all ages so they, too, could discover the joy of creating. Every stitch and story shared, Clarisse realized that magic wasn’t only found in the form of a tiny little talking ball of pink yarn, but in the eyes that seemed to light up with joy when people learnt a new skill or showed off their new artwork for the first time.
